Sugar Minott has been singing positive roots music for the past three decades and his sweet voice has often spoken for the sufferer. With this in mind, we thought that he would be the perfect choice to sing "Born In The Ghetto." We met up with him at Bullwackie's studio in Queens, and after hearing the song for the first time, Sugar quickly agreed that this was the tune for him. A few days later, when the song was recorded, we knew we were witnessing something special the moment Sugar touchedthe mic. His soulful voice and impassioned delivery are sure to make this a selector's choice for years to come. You can find this song on our first compilation: Easy Star Volume One.

Since this single, we have teamed up with Sugar Minott to release four albums from his fabled Black Roots label. Hidden Treasures Vol I and II, Ghetto-Ology +Dub and Rare Gems, are all classic examples of roots and early Dancehall at it's greatest. Rare Gems just won the 2002 INDIE award for Best Reggae Album, and all of these CDs and LPS can be ordered now at our on-line store.
