DUB SIDE
BACK IN NEW YORK CITY!
Appearance at BAM Rhythm and Blues Festival will be the All-Stars’ First
2006 U.S. Show and First Appearance in New York Area in Over a Year
May 15, 2006 – While the Easy Star All-Stars prepare this week to leave
for their first tour of South America, they can’t help but look forward
one month to Thursday, June 8, when they will make their first appearance in
their own hometown in over a year. While it’s been a busy stretch for the
band—including tours of France, Italy, England, the West Coast, Mid-Atlantic,
Colorado, Texas, Louisiana,, as well as filming a live DVD and recording their
next release—the popular reggae collective has not had a chance to strut
their stuff on stage in front of the New York massive. That chance arrives thanks
to an appearance at the 12-year old Brooklyn Academy of Music Rhythm and Blues
Festival.
The timing couldn’t be better, as the group looks forward to the release
of their live concert DVD, Dub Side of the Moon Live, later in the month (June
27). The concert footage was shot in September of last year during a show at
the State Theater in Falls Church, Virginia. It has been augmented with original
animation and features such as interviews with the band, a photo gallery, backstage
footage and footage of the making of the original Dub Side of the Moon album.
Dub Side of the Moon continues to chart on the Billboard Reggae Catalog Chart
over three years since its original release. The band’s follow up--Radiodread,
a reggae re-interpretation of Radiohead’s OK Computer--will be released
August 15. It includes guest vocals by Toots and the Maytals, Citizen
Cope, Morgan Heritage, Horace Andy, Sugar Minott, Frankie Paul, Israel Vibration,
and the
Meditations, as well as contributions by the members of the Easy Star All-Stars.
The band expects to play a song or two during their performance June 8, but will
not play the entire album until a special appearance at the 10th annual All Good
Festival in West Virginia in July.
The BAM R&B Festival presents free concerts on Thursdays between 12:00 noon
and 2:00 pm at Metrotech Plaza in Downtown Brooklyn, two blocks from the Brooklyn
and Manhattan Bridges near the East River. Past performers have included Booker
T & The MG’s, Dr. John, Burning Spear, The Neville Brothers, The North
Mississippi All Stars, The Ohio Players, Maceo Parker, Jimmy Cliff, Third World,
Toots and the Maytals, the Wailers, and War. Needless to say, the Easy Star All-Stars
are honored with being counted among such a powerful group of musicians and performers.
