The object of this musical exercise is a reggae interpretation of
Pink Floyd's near-mythic 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon. It would
be so easy to botch a project like this, given the virtually iconic
nature of the material, but the Easy Star All-Stars and producers
Michael G and Ticklah clearly appreciated the neo-psychedelia of
Dark Side and did a superb job of capturing that feel in translating
the music to reggae. Although all nine songs are well done, some
tracks are more distinctive and catchy than others. "Time,"
for instance, featuring Corey Harris and Ranking Joe, has the sound
of a bona fide reggae hit, whereas "Money" is so similar
to the original that, for a moment, one wonders if the original
was a reggae tune.
